Healing House KC to Begin Work on Family Enrichment Center
to Expand Recovery Services in Kansas City

“This new center allows us to reach even more families — not just those in our homes,
but those still trying to find their way. It’s about breaking barriers, healing hearts,
and restoring lives.” —Bobbi Jo Reed, CEO & Founder, Healing House KC

Kansas City, Missouri— Healing House, a leader in faith-based, peer-supported recovery from substance use, is proud to announce Phase 1 launch of its $1.2 million capital campaign to create the Family Enrichment Center (FEC) — a transformative facility that will expand substance use disorder treatment services to the broader Kansas City community.

Phase 1 of construction will begin on July 10, 2025, with the local firm A. L. Huber serving as General Contractor and Vernacular as the architectural firm.

The Family Enrichment Center will mark a significant milestone for Healing House. For the first time, the organization will be able to provide substance use disorder treatment services to individuals who do not reside in their homes or apartment buildings, reaching those living independently throughout the community. This expansion will grow Healing House’s annual reach for substance use disorder care from 335 to nearly 500 individuals.

“We’ve spent over two decades walking with people through the challenging periods of substance use and into the light of recovery,” said Bobbi Jo Reed, Founder and CEO of Healing House. “This new center allows us to reach even more families — not just those in our homes, but those still trying to find their way. It’s about breaking barriers, healing hearts, and restoring lives.”

A Timely and Urgent Need

Substance use disorder continues to impact communities across the nation. Nearly 20 million U.S. adults live with substance use disorders. Overdose deaths, fueled by opioids and synthetic drugs like fentanyl, are at an all-time high. Kansas City mirrors these national trends, with increasing overdose rates and a severe lack of accessible, affordable treatment options.

Healing House’s Family Enrichment Center aims to directly confront these challenges by offering holistic, individualized care through:

  • Individual Counseling – Tailored, one-on-one sessions for emotional and psychological healing.
  • Group Therapy – Professionally facilitated peer support to foster connection and shared recovery.
  • Family Counseling – Support for rebuilding trust and healing the family unit.
  • Educational Programs – Workshops to equip clients and families with tools for sustained sobriety and healthy living.
  • A Focus on Children – We will provide services to the children of our program participants. All of which is part of our recent Comprehensive Substance Treatment and Rehabilitations accreditation from the Missouri Department of Mental Health.

“The Family Enrichment Center is more than a building—it’s a beacon of hope for those navigating the difficult road to recovery,” said Karl Ploeger, Director of Development at Healing House KC.

A Community Call to Action

The Family Enrichment Center represents a pivotal opportunity to expand Healing House’s mission and impact. With community support, this facility will be a sanctuary for healing, growth, and resilience — empowering hundreds more individuals each year to overcome substance use and reclaim their lives.

“Together, we can transform pain into hope and despair into resilience,” added Ploeger. “We invite the Kansas City community to join us in this mission.”
