Opioid Settlement Funds Fuel Healing House KC’s Mission
to Heal Families Torn by Addiction

“When families are equipped with tools, support, and professional care, the chances for
lasting recovery rise dramatically.” — Bobbi Jo Reed, Founder and CEO of Healing House

Kansas City, Missouri— Healing House KC, Kansas City’s leading peer-run recovery organization, is honored to announce it has received a grant from the Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH), Division of Behavioral Health, to launch recovery services focused on family members of individuals struggling with substance use disorder. This funding marks a pivotal step in Healing House’s mission to break the cycle of addiction by supporting entire families—not just individuals in recovery.

Funded through Opioid Settlement Funds—resources obtained through national legal settlements with opioid manufacturers and distributors—the Family Recovery Program represents Missouri’s renewed commitment to combating the opioid epidemic through treatment, prevention, and recovery efforts.

The grant will fund counseling, trauma-informed care, and family support programming, aligning with Healing House’s broader vision for strengthening families impacted by substance use disorder. As part of this effort, the organization is preparing to open a Family Enrichment Center in fall 2025. The new facility will expand access to family-based recovery services—educational workshops, parenting resources, group therapy—while also providing essential care for spouses, children, and caregivers navigating the challenges of addiction, fostering a supportive environment for long-term healing.

“We are incredibly honored to receive this support from the Missouri Department of Health,” said Bobbi Jo Reed, Founder and CEO of Healing House. “This grant allows us to expand care in a way that’s long been missing from the recovery landscape—by helping the people who are hurting behind the scenes: the family members. They need healing too, and now we’re better equipped than ever to provide it.”

Healing House is already recognized as a model for peer-led recovery in Kansas City. Over the past year, the organization has expanded its housing program by adding 25 adult beds across three new homes, further increasing access to safe, sober living environments in the urban core. But it’s the new focus on family-centered recovery services that reflects the organization’s evolving and comprehensive approach to long-term recovery.

“This is how we truly stop the revolving door of addiction,” Reed said. “When families are equipped with tools, support, and professional care, the chances for lasting recovery rise dramatically.”
